~This is for a co-worker’s god-daughter. Love the  soft pretty pink! We are in the midst of yet another polar vortex or some such mess. It is cold, gray, dark and oh so windy. I can’t wait for the light to brighten.

What are you working? I am working up my nerve to sew this sweet little day gown  and I can’t lie, I’m a little nervous.

~I love a bishop dress with a little cardigan~

DSC_0133 DSC_0134 DSC_0135 DSC_0136 DSC_0137 DSC_0138 DSC_0139 DSC_0140

There is something so precious about a bishop dress. I LOVE them. My goal is to learn how to smock and pleat..insert shudder… Oh Lord.  Maybe one day, but in the meantime I will make bishop dress’. I  used The Scientific Scientist Bebop Bishop Pattern.  I love the small print of this Densyse Schmidt Croquet fabric.  My buttonholer gave me fits and I had to scrap the buttons. I made buttonholes  The Old Fashioned Baby way. Oh me, nerve wracking. They are not perfect, but they will do I suppose.  The sweater is  The Vine Lace Cardi.  I love, love, love this sweater. All we need are a pair of mary- janes and a pair of tights and a baby.   ~ Swoon~

Hello! Hello! I wanted to share some big news…

Oh dear, has it been almost a year? I don’t know what to say really. I can’t quite explain why I fell off the blog wagon.

Life is busy and full. There are not enough hours in the day to get it all done.

I am still doing the things that I love to do. I will always make and create even if I do not document it. It’s just in my blood and

I am very restless when I don’t have a project going. That brings me to my announcement….

So, it’s kind of empty right now however, I am working really hard to create some beautiful classic pieces with some great fabric choices. It’s going to be great. You can see some earlier items I made in my flickr. I may add some other things along the way, bags, quilts, knitted items… we’ll see.

My kids are older and I can’t sew for them like I want, so I figure this is the next best thing. I LOVE sewing for kids and I have a ton of ideas and items I want to make. We’ll see how it all flows.

I hope you will visit and if you have ideas I am all ears.

~Finishing up the small things~

I began this project long ago. I have worked in spurts around a full-time job, the holidays and some major stress at work. Not to mention my sewing machine had a melt down (after returning from the repair shop). Some nights I am so tired it’s all I can do to fall into bed. That being said, I have loved working on this little doll.   It will be hard to say goodbye, but it’s time for her to be on her way.  I just have a few more small things to finish up. Like binding her quilt, stitching up her little pillow. Make a nightie and she could use one more dress.  **Happy to say all of that is done**  Although, I keep thinking she needs one more pair of shoes and a going away bag to hold her clothes.  Hmm, no, I think it’s time to go.

She is ready to roll. I am ready to move on to my next doll. She will have green eyes and red hair (so I’ve been told).

I can’t wait to see what her name will be. She is going far away to live in Washington State with a special little girl. I told her she must be very sweet and a best friend to her new mommy. I think she listened.

I will miss you little friend but I know your going home to right where you belong, so I want you to be good and be sweet!

~You can call her Hermione~

According to my daughter, this little one looks like Hermione in the first and second Harry Potter movies. Bushy brown hair with natural highlights. Funny. That girl is funny.

I love making these dolls. I just love the whole process.

I think I am getting a little better with each doll. I love the yarn mix I used for her hair. I love her knitted dress and booties.  I love this  Dress pattern.  I love the little shoe pattern.  I am working on a little sweater. I will have to show you when it is complete.

The holidays are coming fast. Can you believe it?
I am trying to get my thoughts organized.  I have to admit there is not much time left.  I am hopeful this will be a lovely and quiet holiday season for my family. We have had a few rough ones here of late.  This year I am working towards keeping stress very low and finding joy in the simple things, and focusing on the beauty of the season.

How are  you doing this holiday season? What are you working on?

~What’s going on~

Well, I am not sure if you all have seen it on the news.. but Memphis is in a major flood situation. It is quite grim indeed. Thankfully our home, well, our rental home is fine. Our real home  is fine also, but there are so many that are not.   I tell you, it  is tough to watch and to wait. The river should crest on May 11th at about 48 feet. The record was set in 1937 at 48.7 feet.  The mighty Mississippi is quite powerful.  People around town keep saying the river is going do what the river wants to do. Indeed.

I’ve been slowly working on my Bama Bound quilt.  I finally have the top done.

Sorry, the lighting is bad! I’ve always wanted to make  a zig zag quilt. I used Crazy Mom’s tutorial found here. I am not going to lie, you have to pay attention when you make this! It was really fun though and it was so cool to see the zig zag’s come together.

I can’t wait to quilt it.  I’m also working on this cute little bunny pattern. Love it so far!

I worked on it a little each evening while watching my shows.  I quickly sewed it all together this morning, however,  I sewed the head on backward. I think.  It will be fine though. I am working on the dress now and it is slow going becasue I am using a teeny tiny yarn.

Thankfully the rain that came this morning quickly passed, now I am listening to the girls play outside.

It’s shaping up to be a fine weekend. How about you, how is your weekend going??

~possibilities~

I love in the beginning when all I have are thoughts.  Nothing is certain except for the fact that ” it”  will one day be something.  No time right now, but I have big plans for this little stack of fabric and Perle cotton!

Fat quarter bundle from Hawthorne Threads, I believe I ordered Friday night and my goodness it was here by Monday lunch time. Crazy fast service, got to love it!

~Trying to decide~

I have been away for a while. I am trying to decide if I should take a blog break, end my blog.. or just keep on blogging here and there. I just can’t decide.

In the meantime.. I have started sewing.  Just a few quick and easy dresses. I made two yesterday and I have fabric for about three more.  Give or take.  My daughter loves them and that always makes me happy.

New Look 6195  is so, so fast and easy. I used my serger (finally!!) and it is extremely quick and easy. I made view a, minus the ric rac.
